Fortfarande skapas nya stadsmiljöer som om platsen var ett oskrivet blad – tabula rasa. Även i befintliga industrimiljöer, eller i förtätningsprojekt, förväntas det nya skapa ett nytt stadsliv på väldigt kort tid, trots att projekten i sig själva ofta sätt samman utifrån samma standardrecept för att sälja lägenheter på spekulation: Stora balkonger, laddstolpar, pendlingsavstånd, kvadratmeterpris, gym och i bästa fall – en juicebar.
Det som inte sällan saknas i arkitekturen (historia, kultur, kritik och estetik) blir en uppgift för konsten. Samtidigt saknas ofta plats och förutsättningar för konsten att möta en publik, där bildkonstnärer utelämnas till att inte bara skapa konst utan även själva platsen för sitt verk, utan tillgång till de verktyg som arkitekter besitter. Hur kan bildkonstnärer och arkitekter samarbeta för att ge konsten bättre förutsättningar? Hur förhåller sig bildkonsten till arkitekturens konstnärliga aspekter? Och hur kan arkitektekterna ta ett större konstnärligt ansvar utan att förlita sig på bildkonsten?
Arkitekten Edvin Bylander driver tillsamamns med Joel Persson Our Architectural Office där de bland annat arbetar med offentlig konst tillsammans med bildkonstnärer. Tillsamamns har de skrivit boken Offentligt konstarbete som baseras på ett två-årigt forskningsprojekt stöttat av Trafikverket. Under kulturnatten berättar Edvin om sina erfarenheter av att arbeta arkitektoniskt med konst och konstnärligt med arkitektur.
Sonia Hedstrand är en svensk konstnär, författare och lärare som arbetar i skärningspunkten mellan dokumentarism, konstinstallation och sociologisk undersökning, genom media som text, video, fotografi och performance. I sitt senaste forskningsbaserade projekt Livet i 2,5 dimensioner analyserar hon den ökade förekomsten av känslomässigt, performativt och estetiskt arbete. Hon har drivit flera artistdrivna initiativ och samarbeten som The Drinking Brothers, The Unsecurity Principle och 0s+1s Collective. Hon är en erkänd konstkritiker och kommenterar kulturpolitik för Dagens Nyheter, Kunstkritikk och andra publikationer.
Jukka Värelä arbetar som konstnär och som producent och problemlösare inom kulturområdet (Jukka Solutions). Hans drivs av ett intresse för kopplingspunkten mellan funktion och fantasi. med minimalist uttryck. Hans konstverk omfattar skulptur och installationer, oftast för det offentliga rummet.
