For seven years filmmaker Willie Schumann and Rainer Traube followed the emerging scene of African architects, who dare to build with Raw Earth. A thermal active, climate neutral and traditional building material that almost vanished due to the influence of the global north. Within that time one of the main protagonists of the film Francis Kéré becomes the first African laureate of the Pritzker Prize, the Nobel Prize for architecture, and Ghanian Lesley Lokko is curated the first mainly African themed Architecture Biennale in Venice. New talents like Nzinga Mboup and Mariam Issoufou rise and old heroes like David Adjaye turn to more sustainable materials. The film follows the construction of the new Goethe Institute in Dakar Senegal, by Francis Kére. It dives deep into the challenges of a new group of local, and surprisingly female, architects that connects building traditions with new technology. And which fights the prejudices and power of the cement industry and still remains positive and hopeful. The film is co-production of DW and the Goethe Institute and has had a very successful start online with already around 400.000 views.
